A 66-year-old Deltona woman returned from shopping on Saturday afternoon only to find someone had smashed a window and gotten inside her home. Jewelry, a laptop and a cell phone were reported missing, according to a news release from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The senior used a cell phone locator service to pinpoint the general area were the phone was now located. After calling the phone, deputies finally found it ringing in a garbage can in front of a house.
A deputy trailed voices he had heard coming from the home’s yard and found two men hiding behind a tree: Gabriel Hidalgo, 20, and Heriberto Hidalgo, 21.
When the deputies reportedly found stolen jewelry and a handgun on the duo, they ‘fessed up to the home burglaries.
They were charged with carrying a concealed weapon, loitering/prowling, burglary, armed burglary, three counts of grand theft and criminal mischief. Heriberto Hidalgo was also charged with giving false identification to law enforcement and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
