Deborah Olivia Gardner, 58, who lives on the 10700 block of Blue Bimini Circle, was arrested by Lee County sheriff’s deputies at the Sheriff’s Office in Fort Myers. She is facing charges of home invasion robbery and battery on a person 65 years or older.
The victim, who is 81, told deputies she was in the family room of her home falling in and out of sleep while watching TV, according to an arrest report. She was startled when she saw a woman standing inside her home.
Gardner began to introduce herself, stating that the victim’s husband owed her fifty dollars for some cleaning she had done, reports said.
The victim said she told Garner that her husband was sick and sleeping so they would have to discuss payment at another time. Gardner became angry and went into the husband’s bedroom. She found his pants, grabbed his wallet, and removed the cash inside.
Deputies say Gardner pushed the victim, who then grabbed Gardner’s hair. Gardner began to bite the woman’s hand, breaking the skin on her right index finger. Once bleeding, the victim stopped fighting. Gardner fled the residence on a golf cart.
According to the victim, she ran to her neighbors and had them call 911. After hearing a description of the woman, the neighbor identified her as a woman he believed lived in the park. The park manager was contacted and gave deputies Gardner’s information.
Gardner was detained for a show up, to which the victim identified her as the woman who bit her.
